A memorial ceremony on Park Central Square on Oct. 2 honored three black men – Horace Duncan, Fred Coker and William Allen – who were lynched on Easter weekend in 1906. The event promoted healing, forgiveness and remembering the past – even when painful – in order to learn and prevent repeating injustice in the future.
At the end of the ceremony, a historical marker about the tragic event was unveiled on the SE corner of the square.
